Story on plaza in Barcelona
There is a grand old city on the northeastern coast of Spain. It is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Catalonia (KAT a lon ya), as well as the second-most populous city in Spain.
Barcelona.
Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage with an important cultural centre and is a major tourist destination. In July 2023, Barcelona became the UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture for the 2024–2026 term. UNESCO is a designation by the UN for locations of worldwide historical significance. It is like creating a national park but on the global scale. In fact, Barcelona's influence in global socio-economic affairs qualifies it for global city status. This means it will be the hub for discussion around global challenges including culture, heritage, urban planning and architecture.
Catalan citizens are fierce advocates of independence. You may be familiar with recent moves to have Catalan become independent from Spain. During the 2010s, Barcelona became the focus city for the ongoing Catalan independence movement, its consequent standoff between the regional and national government and later protests.
Some of Barcelona’s cultural tributes are tributes to great authors. One such tribute is a square, Plaça in Spanish, dedicated to the literary works of Eric Arthur Blair.
Eric Arthur Blair is not Spanish nor Catalan but Barcelona has several squares and parks which are named after foreigners. Some of them, such as Plaça de John Lennon or Jardins de Ghandi, seem to have been named simply due to the person’s status or perceived importance on the world stage. Others are named as an homage to someone who is somehow associated with or connected to the city. The square named in homage to Eric Arthur Blair falls into this second category.
This public square is located in the Gothic quarter of Barcelona. By the standards of the ever popular Gothic quarter, this is a very quiet square more popular with locals than it is with tourists.
Born in India in 1903, Eric Arthur Blair studied at the famous British public school Eton College before training as a policeman and finally becoming a writer. He was also a journalist who wrote several non-fiction works and essays. Most of his novels reflect his left-wing political views, and in 1936, shortly after the onset of the Spanish Civil War, Eric moved to Barcelona, with the intention of fighting fascism.
Only a year later, in 1937, he left Barcelona after being shot in the neck and badly injured while fighting in Aragon. After returning to England, he wrote Homage to Catalonia, which narrates his experiences in Barcelona and describes how the Communist power struggle almost derailed the Republican cause. In 1949, he went on to publish his seminal novel, the one he is most known for today.
In 2001, the square named for Eric Arthur Blair had the dubious honor of being the first public square in Barcelona to be fitted with surveillance cameras, ironically confirming that Big Brother had arrived in Barcelona. Oddly, this event has been largely ignored.
Why is this ironic, you ask? Because the novel you and I know Eric Arthur Blair for is famous for being against surveillance. That novel? That novel is the famous dystopian novel “1984”.

My goal today is to help Dissolve Illusions and give you material to think about and help us all to discern reality. How can we separate what is real from what is an illusion crafted by an Orwellian ministry of truth.
So, Let’s go back to the real 1984. Do you remember who was president of the US in 1984? Ronald Reagan. Do you remember the enemy being fought at the time? It was the time of the cold war? Socialism/communism vs societies with individual freedom. I will share a little cartoon with you that explains the dialectic arguments used to give the illusion that socialism is a good thing and makes you better off than individual liberty and effort. Dr. David Martin
David Martin was on a recent Man in America podcast hosted by Seth Holehouse. I encourage you to follow Man in America as Seth does a masterful job of interviewing people who not only expose the corruption in our institutions but have solutions to fighting the corruption. Two segments today will come from Man in America. The first is with Dr David Martin who has been a constant voice exposing the lies since long before covid came on the scene.
My focus today will be on lies and how the Hegelian Dialectic is used to create illusions to fool people into believing lies. Kind of like the ministry of truth in the novel, 1984.
What is the Hegelian Dialectic? Simply put it is problem, reaction, solution. Create a problem that does not exist to get an emotional reaction so you can propose your desired solution, a solution that would be normally be rejected as ridiculous. For instance, how do you convince the entire world to get injected with unknown, experimental substances without having a complete uprising? Answer — create a perceived emergency situation with an engineered pandemic and have your trusted leaders in charge of the warp speed response.
Do you still think we just lived through a real pandemic? Do you still think no one knew what was about to happen in 2020? Do you still think that drug companies pushing so-called legal drugs are looking out for your health? Do you think the WHO is in place to protect world health or to protect the world drug trade.
